2023 OBHF PLAYER ELIGIBILITY (MEN)

*for League, Provincial and National play*

  • Registration in summer seasons is the prerequisite for all summer events.
  • Players will be re-classified as to level they play in 2023.

Men’s A-B-C-D-E

PROVINCIAL RULE – If a player played ‘A’ level in the Province of Ontario in 2022 and no longer wants to play ‘A’ level, they are not classified as an ‘A’ player Provincially in 2023. They will be classified as to the level that they play in 2023. 

NATIONAL RULE – Players who played in the 2022 CBHA Men’s ‘A’ Nationals in Hamilton are not eligible for lower levels in 2023 National events (B-C-D). Please see exemptions available in ‘B’ Nationals Eligibility. 

NATIONAL RULE – Players who play in a designated ‘A’ level league and are classified as an ‘A’ player are not eligible for lower levels in 2023 National events (B-C-D). Please see exemptions available in ‘B’ Nationals Eligibility.

PROVINCIAL RULE – Players who played in the 2022 CBHA Men’s ‘A’ Nationals in Hamilton but were classified as B-C players in the OBHF will be re-classified to B-C level for 2023 OBHF Provincial play.

PROVINCIAL & NATIONAL RULE – Players who play ‘A’ Division, ‘A’ National Qualifier, ‘A’ National Championships in 2023 are not eligible for 2023 lower-level Provincial or National events. They are classified as ‘A’ players for 2023 Provincial events if they participate in the above-mentioned events. Note: In 2024, a player classified as a B-C player in the OBHF who was picked up for 2023 ‘A’ Nationals may be re-classified to play B-C level, however, they are not able to play 2024 ‘A’ Nationals or above rule is enforced.

PROVINCIAL RULE – Players who play in ‘A’ Nationals but were classified as D-E players in the OBHF will be re-classified the following year, however, their re-classification will be one level above their previous classification. ‘D’ player will be classified ‘C’ and ‘E’ player will be classified as ‘D’.

PROVINCIAL RULE – Any player who plays in a designated ‘A’ level league is classified as an ‘A’ player.

Any 2022 classified ‘A’ player who wishes to participate in the lower-level leagues in 2023 and relinquishes the ‘A’ status will be governed by the following OBHF league team limits:

B/C – Three (3) former ‘A’ players per team.

D – Two (2) former ‘A’ players per team.

E – One (1) former ‘A’ player per team.

Masters 33+ (1990 or earlier)


  • Club team of all 33+ players playing any division can enter the Masters 33+ Provincial Championships.
  • League division assembled teams of 33+ players are eligible to enter the Masters 33+ Provincial Championships.
  • One team entry per division day of play is available for the leagues to enter the Masters 33+ Provincial Championships. Additional entries may be granted based on availability.
  • Pick ups for club teams at the Provincial Championships must be from the same division day of play in the club team league (three players and a goalie).
  • There are no A classified players eligible for Masters 33+ Provincial Championships.

Masters 33+ (1989 or earlier)

  • Club team of all 33+ players playing any division can enter the Masters 33+ Provincial Championships.
  • League division assembled teams of 33+ players are eligible to enter the Masters 33+ Provincial Championships.
  • One team entry per division day of play is available for the leagues to enter the Masters 33+ Provincial Championships. Additional entries may be granted based on availability.
  • Pick ups for club teams at the Provincial Championships must be from the same division day of play in the club team league (three players and a goalie).
  • There are no A classified players eligible for Masters 33+ Provincial Championships.
  • There are no age exemptions.

Legends  43+ (1979 or earlier)

  • Club team of all 43+ players playing any division can enter to the Masters 43+ Provincial Championships.
  • League assembled teams of 43+ players are eligible to enter the Masters 43+ Provincial Championships.
  • Pick ups for club teams at the 43+ Provincial Championships must be from the same league (three players and a goalie).
  • All players registered are eligible for Legends 43+.
  • There are no age exemptions.

Legends 50+ (1972 or earlier)

  • Every registered player in Ontario is eligible for the Legends 50+ Provincial Championships.
  • There are no age exemptions.


Men’s B – C – D – E & Women’s A/B/Women’s 33+ Winter Provincial Championships – May 26- 28, 2023

Players may only participate on one team per weekend.


Men’s 43+ Masters/Qualifiers Provincial Championships – June 9-11 

Players may only participate on one team per weekend.


Men’s ‘A’  Provincial Championships – July 7-9

Players may only participate on one team per weekend.


Men’s B – C – D – E  Provincial Championships – July 7-9

Players may only participate on one team per weekend.


Men’s 33+/50+ Provincial Championships – August 25 – 27

Players may only participate on one team per weekend.


Any classified A players from the 2022 season are not eligible to participate in the Winter Provincial Championships.


Note: These rules must be abided by all leagues. If they are not, please notify the OBHF.
